How to Use Nano Banana 2 Lite

Create your first Nano Banana 2 Lite image with this step-by-step guide for prompts, uploads, settings, credits and result review.

This is the first guide in the docs — read it once, then move on to the Prompt Guide for better results.

  1. 1

    Open the workspace

Go to Text to Image for a prompt-only start, or Image to Image if you already have a source photo to edit.

  2. 2

    Choose text-to-image or image-to-image

Text-to-image generates from a written description alone. Image-to-image uploads a reference photo and edits or restyles it with a prompt.

  3. 3

    Prepare your first prompt

Describe the subject, the setting and the mood in one or two plain-language sentences — see the Prompt Guide for a repeatable formula.

  4. 4

Choose aspect ratio & Native 1K settings

Pick an aspect ratio for your composition. Every option generates at Native 1K — the Native 1K badge next to the selector confirms this before you submit.

  5. 5

    Submit, review and refine

Submit the request and it typically completes in ~4s generation. Review the result, then adjust one detail in your prompt at a time rather than rewriting it completely.

  6. 6

    Download and save

Once you are happy with a result, download it. Small, iterative prompt changes usually get you there faster than starting over.

Ready to try it? Start at Text to Image for a prompt-only generation, or Image to Image if you already have a source photo. Once you're comfortable with the basics, see Generation Workflow for the full prompt-to-download path, including credits.
